In My View
My artist's eye looks for color and light. I draw and paint my view. My writer's mind is curious and hopeful. I speak with a creative true voice. My teacher’s hands and heart show the way to art-making, art-taking, and art-giving. I illuminate the story of creative wellness. I create inspired by art and hope and seeing the beauty of nature and our human nature.
In the studio and life, it is all one body of work - every idea, word, and brushstroke. The transformational energy of creativity is my ready remedy. For better or worse, visual art and writing have companioned me in the best and worst times of my average life. My creative body of work embodies who I am and is the vehicle for self-awareness that bears witness to my soul story. It reflects my observations, meditations, dreams, myths, visions, passions, hopes, and beliefs. It inspires and informs my teaching and artistic approach to creating wellness.
I am a community artist, educator, and the founder of ART HOPE, a nonprofit dedicated to creative wellness education. The insights and blessings of this work compelled me to write the ART HOPE book and are a rich compost for the essays I post in the Journal.
Being a studio artist is how I connect ideas with image and form. I endeavor to create beauty and make a practical order from the chaos of everyday living. The studio is my well of wellness. Painting is my peak creative experience. Watercolors keep me humble and in a happy place. I paint landscapes that reflect my love for open water and swimmer's eye views of Maine's remarkable coastline and freshwater lakes. Walking and hiking the contours of the Earth nurtures an organic perspective for figurative themes and musing the Divine Feminine. It is all connected, one evolving body of creative work conceived of mind and spirit.
